Exploring the Probiotic Potential of Dairy Industrial-Relevant Lactobacilli

Usually, the search for new candidate probiotics starts from strain isolation, followed by genotypic and phenotypic characterisations. For best candidates, final selection criteria, i.e., an efficient biomass production survival to stressful conservation processes, may often represent a bottleneck. The aim of this study is reverse classic bottom-up approach, thereby evaluating in vitro probiotic properties microbes that are already commercialized employed dairy sector. major advantage reversing traditional scheme deal with strains suitable scale-up at industrial level. In work, four lactobacilli were analysed, belonging species Lactiplantibacillus plantarum (strains PLA PLA2) Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus PAR4 RHM). Both L. showed under simulated oro-gastrointestinal stress; had strongest inhibitory activity against all tested harmful bacteria, latter showing also highest percentage Caco-2 adhesion; RHM was biofilm producer on abiotic surface. Finally, cell-free surnatants cultures exhibited anti-inflammatory action THP-1 macrophages. studied strains, it possible claim beneficial functional other than technological ones which they marketed. use mixture could strategy diversify maximize their potential. Nonetheless, future studies necessary validate vivo observed evaluate any effect vehicle product aptitude.
